Q: How much
does my
drive-alone
commute cost?
A: Most people
are surprised to
find out how
expensive it is
to drive alone.
For example,
gas, tires and
maintenance cost
about 16.2
cents/mile. If
your commute is
15 miles each
way, you're
spending almost
$5 a day and
more than $1,000
per year! And
this doesn't
include parking,
maintenance, vehicle
depreciation,
insurance, or
other fees. When
you include all
of those costs
the figure is
more than 60
cents/mile! Just
add one person
to your car and
you'll save
hundreds of
dollars a year.Q: How can LOTMA help make your commute less costly and stressful?
A: We can assist you in identifying the most convenient alternative to driving alone, whether it is TheBus, LOTMAs Commuter Express, carpooling or vanpooling.
Q: Is there a fee for LOTMAs
carpool matching services?
A: No. LOTMA provides
carpooling information and assistance as a free, public service to the community.
Q: How
can LOTMA help
me find a
carpool?
A: Once
we get your
commute
information
(home and work
locations and
work hours) we
do a
computerized
commuter search
for potential
“matches.”
Q: What do I do when I get a matchlist from you?
A: Just call the people on the list to see if mutually agreeable arrangements can be worked out. Remember, carpooling is very flexible. Whatever works for your carpool is okay.
Q: How can I get a van from LOTMA?
A: Although we help interested parties fill their vans, LOTMA does not provide the vehicles.
Vanpool Hawaii is the one to call for a van (596-VANS).
Q: Does LOTMA give out home addresses to other commuters?
A: No. Your
home address is
kept
confidential.
Only phone
numbers, e-mail,
work location
and work
schedule are
given out for
matching
purposes.
We are eager to help you. Just call 677-RIDE.
